The Order

THE ORDER OF CURSED MEN

The Observance

The curse remains. The work continues.

A place is made. A passage is read.
What follows belongs to the men assembled.

The reading.

A passage from the Record or a source chosen from the Readings, spoken aloud. Each man may bring his understanding to it. Questions may remain questions. Silence has its place.

The hearing.

Give a man room to speak in his own words. Listen to what he chooses to tell. What he leaves unspoken remains his. No man owes the table a confession.

The offering.

Bring what can be given: knowledge, attention, skill, imagination, or a willing hand. An undertaking is chosen by those who will carry it. The work must be of use to someone beyond the name of the Order.

The return.

At a time agreed, meet again. Speak of what was attempted, what was made, and what remains unfinished. A promise is taken freely. If it cannot be kept, speak plainly.

The man who reads holds no higher place.
The man who listens holds no lower one.

We are all the cursed man.
